ANNOUNCEMENTS

New Friday Night Activity Offering

On Friday night, August 6 - there is a new activity offering.  As an alternative to the pub crawl, Waterfall Arts will be offering the "Wait until Dark - Movie on the Wall" series at their location - the Governor Anderson SchoolStarting at 8 pm a local band will play music until it gets dark enough to show the films (start time aprox. 8:45 pm).  The movies to be shown are all by Maine film makers.  Approximate viewing time should be about one hour or a little longer.  Also, Elaine Bielenberg - President of the Board - has offered to open the doors of our previous elementary school for a tour, so the BAHS Alumni group can walk those familiar halls of our youth once again.  This activity will be outdoors and free to all.  Please bring blankets or lawn chairs for comfortable viewing.  Please check out their website: www.waterfallarts.org   or contact them by e-mail: info@waterfallarts.org  or call direct: (207) 338 - 2222.

Donation of Flowers

"Holmes Greenhouse and Florist Shop" has graciously agreed to donate 50 carnations, which will be presented to the teachers who will be joining us for the reunion on Saturday evening, August 7.  The Alumni Association wishes to thank Mr. Allen Holmes and family for their generosity.

Holmes Greenhouse is located at: 35 Swan Lake Avenue, Belfast

Telephone:  (207) 338 - 2050

(Alumni Owner: Allen Holmes - BAHS Class of 1966.)

Please support these businesses, who have chosen to support the BAHS Alumni Association with their generous donations, by becoming frequent customers.

Message From the Desk of Superintendent of School RSU 20:

Welcome back alumni of Belfast Area HS.  The Belfast area and BAHS have undergone significant changes since 1975.  The high school, originally built to house approximately 400 students, is now serving 643 students grades nine through twelve.  There have been three additions to the school that include the math wing, the English wing, and the most obvious fine arts wing.  All schools in the district, with the exception of Weymouth school, have been upgraded or totally rebuilt.  With the addition of the Capt. Albert Stevens elementary school and the Troy Howard Middle School, we are no longer using Pierce School, Anderson School, Robertson School, and Crosby High School.  Most recently, we are part of a State mandated consolidation and our school district is now known as Regional School Unit #20 and encompasses all the former SAD34 towns and former SAD56 (Searsport, Frankfort, and Stockton Springs).  We cover nine towns with two high schools, two middle schools, and nine elementary schools and a total of 2600 students.

The city of Belfast and the surrounding communities have gone through major transformations in the years since your graduation.  The loss of the poultry and sardine industry and the arrival of MBNA, Bank of America, and Athena Health has resulted in obvious changes to the area.  We enjoy a branch of the University of Maine located at the Hutchinson Center out on route 3 and Waldo County Hospital has gone through an expansion.  The Belfast Free Library has undergone a renovation and the waterfront has totally changed.  If you have not been in the area for a while, I think you will be impressed with the changes.

Letti Harvey has undertaken the job of organizing this reunion as well as establishing an alumni association.  I encourage you to support her efforts and choose to be involved.

Enjoy your time ‘home’ and take advantage of the many activities arranged for you.  If you have questions about the high school or any of our schools, please feel free to contact me at 338-1960 or bmailloux@sad34.net.

Bruce Mailloux   ‘68’

RSU 20

I have not received very many "Letters of Appreciation" for the teachers which will be put into books for each educator and presented on Saturday evening, August 7 just before the variety show.

Please send your letters to me copied right into the body of your e-mail messages to be printed or if you prefer them to remain private - you can mail them to me and I will place them in the teachers books unopened.

The reunion is only a month away and all these books have to be completed for presentation soon, because time is running short.  Please see the list of teachers who are planning on joining us at the reunion under the tab "Letters for Teachers" to the left and write to as many as you can so each will have a book with at least a few letters.  Thank you everyone.

Pot Luck Lunch Contributions by Attendees

On Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 11 am - 4 pm there will be a Pot Luck Lunch at the Belfast City Park Pavilion for the seven class reunion (1975-81).  This feast is to be contributed to by all attendees.  On the left hand side column there is a sign-up page for what specifically people want to commit to bringing.  Please check what others have added so far and try not to duplicate too often.   Thanks everyone.

Committed so far:

Main/Side Dish:  Italian Pasta Salad (Lisa O'Leary '80).

On-Line Registration for Reunion

When you click on the tab to the left labeled - "30th and 35th Year Reunion" - if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, there is an on-line registration form that you can fill out for the seven class reunion that will be held next summer over the weekend of August 6 - 8, 2010. If you know you are going to be attending, Irequest that you take a minute to fill out the form and submit your registration.  Thanks everyone.

Sign-Up Tabs Activated for Extra Activities

Please look at the new "sign-up" tabs on the left column of the home page.  You will be able to register for the Lions Club Lobster/Clam feed (alternate steak or chicken) on Friday afternoon, August 6, 2010, plus register for the offerings for Sunday morning, August 8, 2010. The prices are listed.

Also, current BAHS Art Teacher and Yearbook Adviser, Heidi O'Donnell has created a 20 minute montage DVD for the seven class (1975 - 1981) reunion which will be shown prior to the variety show on Saturday evening, August 7, 2010 from 6:40 - 7 pm.  Heidi, along with volunteer students from The Photography Class, produced a DVD highlighting the historical events that took place during the sixties and seventies, revisit the significant places in Belfast at that time of our youth, include the music of our era and of course, pictures starring                members from the seven classes while walking the halls of BAHS (and dodging water buckets).    Heidi will be on hand with DVD's available for a suggested donation of $5, which will benefit The BAHS Photography Class.

If you think you would be interested in purchasing a montage DVD for a keepsake to take home with you, please sign up so The Photography Class will have some idea of how many copies they should produce and have on hand.
